The problem with Canada’s big banks and cannabis

It’s been over a year since Canada federally legalized cannabis, but the big banks in Canada still won’t work with weed. This is a major problem for cannabis businesses, who are forced to deal in cash only, which is unsafe and inconvenient.

Cannabis business owners like Ryan Roche have tried to engage the banks, but have been met with frustration and deep disrespect. The banks simply aren’t interested in doing business with the cannabis industry.

This leaves cannabis businesses vulnerable and at a disadvantage. Hopefully, as the industry continues to grow and mature, the banks will eventually come around and start working with them. Until then, cannabis businesses will have to continue to operate on a cash-only basis.
